This production was made during my first semester at the University of North Alabama. I
wrote the words, which I then gave to my friend Lew Balance. The music he wrote made
the song sound very circa-1972. I then took the song to Phil Williams, another friend,
who recorded it for use in the video.
The video was shot on 8mm film. It was my first production, so it was also a learning
experience. You'll notice the intro text and credits are illegible.
Noteworthy folklore:
- The middle instrumental section was done to emulate the style of the group
Tears for Fears, which was at the height of their popularity at the time.
- The song title was the name of the then-Miss UNA. I thought it was a great name.
- The female lead won the Miss UNA title the following year. That was an
unexpected coincidence.
- "Fight Back," the song used in the credits/outtakes, was sung by the real Alyssa.
- Later events resulted in Alyssa inspiring my award-winning poem, "Wednesday,
January 22, 1986, 3:00 p.m." This was also the day the Challenger space shuttle
exploded on takeoff. Everyone who read the poem thought that it must relate to
the shuttle tragedy. It is just another coincidence.
