Although I was deeply involved in the making of "Tomatoes in the Treetops," I can
honestly say "Transitions: Adjusting to College Life" was my production all the way. I
wrote the script, chose the actors and locations and blocked all the scenes. My hard
work was rewarded with the Grand Prize, Educational Division, in the 1988
Alpha
Epsilon Rho national competition. I also received a $500 scholarship from Alpha
Epsilon Rho.

The video was made in coordination with the University of North Alabama Student
Development Center and shown to the students of parents. A scene would be shown,
then discussed among the university staff and parents. "Transitions: Adjusting to
College Life" was also used in the orientation programs of several other universities,
including Troy State University and the University of Alabama.

Noteworthy folklore:

  • "False Hopes" was shot in a sorority house on a weekday at noon. People were
coming and going during the filming of the scene. To make matters worse, the
room contained vertical mirrored columns, so I also had to be concerned with
the reflections of people passing by out of camera view.

  • Sherry, the woman in the red sweater in "Friendly Advice," also appeared in
"Alyssa" as the woman driving the car and in the Tee Jays promo video.
